“Bloom where you are planted” is a great sayin “Bloom where you are planted” is a great saying, in theory. It asks us to stop waiting for the right time, the perfect place, the ideal partner; to stop putting our lives off until ______. HOWEVER - it can also be shaming. Not all plants bloom in all conditions. If you take a desert cactus and try to grow it outside in a cool, rainy climate it won’t thrive. Many plants can’t handle the boiling hot, humid climate here in Mississippi. We have to find the balance between appreciating where we are and leaving situations where we have no chance of thriving. If you can’t figure out which of these places you are in, a mental health professional can help you sort through it!

It’s silly but I absolutely love the quote: “T It’s silly but I absolutely love the quote: “Today is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one." Any day can be the day you make a fresh start but there’s something about #january1st that makes it FEEL more possible to create change. I use the word goal in place of “resolution” because resolutions don’t work. According to Forbes: “Less than 25% of people actually stay committed to their resolutions after just 30 days, and only 8% accomplish them.” We have all likely set a resolution we haven’t stuck with so try setting goals this year. Use the SMART goal setting:
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Timely
Using SMART goal setting of your resolution is “lose weight” (the most popular resolution) which is vague we would say
Specific - lose 20 pounds
Measurable - weight is measurable so we are good there
Attainable - depending on your current weight & physical condition this may or may not be attainable, it’s always good to talk to your doctor about health goals
Realistic - 20 pounds may or may not be realistic for you
Timely - 20 pounds in 2021 is .38 pounds per week which is a little low. To make it timely you might say 20 pounds in 25 weeks. 1 pound per week is a realistic and healthy rate and adding in some extra weeks allows for special events, illness, and other things that might slow you down.
What are your 2021 goals? Comment and share!
